Compress PDF Files — Private & Fast
Reduce PDF size instantly in your browser. Choose compression level and download a smaller file while keeping important visual quality.
How compression works
This tool renders PDF pages in the browser, re-encodes each page as a JPEG image at a chosen quality, and rebuilds a new PDF — reducing filesize at the cost of (often minimal) image quality loss. Text-only PDFs may not compress much with this method; for those a specialised PDF optimizer is recommended.
- Upload or drop a PDF file on the right panel.
- Choose High, Medium or Low compression (Low = smaller file & lower image quality).
- Click Compress PDF and download the result.
Note: Very large PDFs may take long and can be memory intensive. Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed.
FAQs
- Will my PDF be uploaded anywhere?
- No — all work is done in your browser.
- Does compression reduce text quality?
- Text rendered as vector/embedded fonts remains fine. If the PDF consists of scanned images, image re-encoding will affect image sharpness depending on level chosen.
- Can I revert to original?
- Always keep a copy of the original file — compressed files are lossy and cannot be perfectly restored.
